Valeggio Sul Mincio

Valeggio is a small lovely town in the countryside, 30 min driving. To get here by bike is very easy as well, you can ride along the river, it’s 1,30 min flat ride. We love the Sunday markets and the serene atmosphere.

Valeggio Markets

The town is divided in two: Uptown Valeggio and the old watermill village down on the river – Borghetto.  The main square of Uptown Valeggio just below the Scaligero Castle host several markets during the summer, every 4Th Sunday of the Month host a wonderful Antiques market, and on the 12 of May and 6 of October a super fancy Vintage Market.

Tortellini heaven

If you come here you can’t miss a Tortellini tasting, stop at Pastificio Remelli here in town, you can also buy some deli to bring home. It’s a wonderful laboratory/shop but during the weekend you can sit down for a delicious tortellini tasting. A little tip: Reservation is required but if you step inside 15 min. before noon you can try to ask for a quick early table.  There’s also a gluten-free alternative very near – Il Forno senza Glutine. La lepre is different but also very nice.

Parco Giardino Sigurtà

A true gift from a visionary family. This Park receives every year awards and is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe. The history of the Sigurtà Garden Park dates back to 14th May 1407, Napoleon III, Franz Josef, and other historical figures stayed in the mansion but the real father of the park like we have today was an Italian Doctor Mr. Sigurtà back in the 1940. We love to come here during the spring to witness the blossoms flowering but also to enjoy the shades of the trees, a refreshing visit during the hot summer days. Ancient trees, all sorts of flowers, little lakes and fountains, erbes gardens, a wonderful maze, it’s a kind of magic.

Borghetto

An easy stroll down from the town you can find yourself back in time in a perfectly maintained watermill town. There are a couple of nice shops & wine bar as well, if you want to sit down by the water and have a bottle of nice wine try Lostappo, or if you are looking for a super traditional lunch or dinner try Locanda Vecchio Mincio a super classic. Cross the bridge and continue on the left side you can find a quiet spot on the river, it’s a wonderful experience just chilling out by the water and watching some driftwood passing by.
